The Fleur du Cap winemaking team walked away with three Gold medals and the Trophy for Best Sauvignon Blanc during the annual Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards on 29 September 2018.

The award-winning wines are –

Trophy Winner – Fleur du Cap Series Privée Sauvignon Blanc 2017
Gold – Fleur du Cap Series Privée Chardonnay 2017
Gold – Feur du Cap Series Privée Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Gold – Fleur du Cap Series Privée Merlot 2015

The Awards, established in 1997, is the only international wine competition in South Africa. The judges, all hand-picked wine experts, represent seven continents around the globe. Each year, more than 2000 wine, brandy and liqueur entries are received and
judged by five judges using the 100-point OIV system.
Grapes for the Trophy-winning Series Privée Sauvignon Blanc 2017 were sourced from a vineyard in Darling, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The vineyard, planted in 2004, is farmed under dryland conditions and yielded seven tons per hectare. The block was picked after regular tasting in collaboration with the winemaker and viticulturist. To retain the delicate inherent Sauvignon Blanc aromas, the grapes, juice and wine were treated reductively. After harvesting, no skin contact was allowed, and only free run juice used.
This wine is brilliantly clear with a green tint and shows crisp aromas of fig leaves, gooseberries, asparagus with traces of delicate tropical fruit. The palate is rich and full-bodied with a blend of herbaceous and tropical fruit ending in a lovely long, smooth finish.

“Fleur du Cap has the freedom to select regional vineyards where individual varieties best express their character and finesse.” says Pieter Badenhorst, Fleur du Cap’s winemaker. “Our Series Privée range is a meticulous selection of the finest wines from our cellar, these wines are literally not filtered but alternatively clarified by time and gravity. The result is wines that always show just that little extra on the nose and pallet.”

Fleur du Cap wines are available at retail outlets nationwide, found on various restaurant wine lists and can be delivered to your door when purchased online through Vinotèque online shop.
